Speedy Tacos

This recipe uses store-bought salsa and taco seasoning to make a super-quick taco filling from TVP. The TVP has a texture similar to shredded chicken when cooked. Wrap in a flour tortilla or stuff in a hard shell with lettuce, tomatoes and beans.
Ingredients:
2 cups TVP (textured vegetable protein) 2 cups water 2 tbsp soy sauce 2 tbsp olive or vegetable oil 1 package taco seasoning ½ cup dehydrated bell peppers 1 cup dehydrated refried beans 1/4 cup salsa flour tortillas or taco shells Preparation: In a large skillet, heat the water over medium heat, and add the TVP, stirring well. Allow the TVP to reconstitute for 2-3 minutes. In a separate bowl, reconstitute the bell peppers. Do the same with the refried beans Add oil and soy sauce, then peppers and taco seasoning, stirring well. Allow to cook for another 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently. Mix in salsa and remove from heat. Serve wrapped in a flour tortilla or hard taco shells. You can also add tomatoes, lettuce, or what ever your garden provides.

A NEW magazine, written for Preppers and Survivalists

It seems odd that my first post would be to promote someone else. However, my goal is to bring you the relevant information that will help you Prepare for the Hard Times Ahead.

That on my Twitter Blog I mentioned that I would be reviewing a new publication entitled the "Complete Survivalist". After reading the first issue cover to cover I have to say that this is a must have publication for both the beginning Prepper and the veteran Survival Expert.

This first issue was free, all I had to pay was a small shipping and handling charge and within a few days, it arrived in the mail.  I have to say that I'm not used a service like this. Usually when I order something, I'm left waiting for several weeks, but the real surprise is what I found within the magazine itself.

Some of the topics covered were Homeschooling, Nuclear threat, and the storage of antibiotics. Personally, I enjoyed the article entitled, "Down to Nothing: Finding Food When You're Desperate", by John Milandred.  This brought back memories from my survival training as a United States Army Ranger.  And yes... Grasshoppers do contain protein, but they don't taste anything like chicken.  Snakes and turtles and lizards make for fine dining, but a bug tastes... like a bug, even when you're hungry!  This article was very well done and is packed with sound information on sourcing out food in a survival situation.  Let's face it, those MRE's won't last forever!

I think the book review by Jerry Erwin, was a bit harsh.  Next time, read more than 70 pages before writing a review. I think we all understand that books like "American Apocalypse" are merely fiction and as such contain lots of mistakes made by the characters.  Let's face it, experts write "how-to books", fiction authors write.... fiction.  As a fiction writer myself, I have to honestly say, "research?  what's that?"

I did get a kick out of his comments on the cover of  "American Apocalypse", which has a picture of a .44
Ruger Magnum.  While reading this I couldn't help but smile, because the old phrase kept running through my head.... "you can't judge a book by it's cover"... or by 70 pages.

But setting the book review aside, I highly recommend the "Complete Survivalist" magazine for Preppers and Survivalists.  I'm sure that in the months ahead, we'll see many more useful articles and who knows, maybe I'll write a book review... hahaha!  With a subscription fee of less than 20 bucks, I a player.  So, I'll be signing up and looking forward to this monthly periodical called, "Complete Survivalist".  I hope you will as well.

You can find the "Complete Survivalist" at; http://completesurvivalist.com/

Hopefully, my next blog article will be one that promotes my own Blog, but I felt this was important and you needed to know.  God bless, be safe, and stay vigilant at "Preparing for the Hard Times Ahead".  BG

Survival Cook Books

I am happy to report that my newest book has gone through the first edit. It's in for the second editing and hopefully this will be the last. I'm so anxious to get this book out to all of you. It has been so much fun to do. The nice thing about writing a cook book is all of the "research", the cooking and eating (the eating is my favorite part).

This line of Cook Books is geared for all of those who have worked hard building a survival pantry. And the reason for these books; is that if "the doodie hits the fan", we'll have to start using those goods stored up in our pantries, but let's be honest... when you're under stress like that, you won't be too creative in the kitchen. These books will help you.

I've read a lot of cook books on how to use dried goods, rice and beans, and those meals will keep you alive, providing you can get everyone to eat them. If you have children, you know what I mean. I know that if a person is hungry enough they'll eat anything, but why let it get to that when you have the products that can make delicious meals. You just need the recipes and that's what my books will give you.

Many of these, are the same recipes that we use for our own line of Survival Meals. I'm not "plugging" these products, just pointing out that these recipes offer tasty, healthy meals. In fact, in our house this is all we use and because of it, our health is great, our panty gets rotated more often, we don't have to worry about spoilage, and our food bill has dropped drastically. I know you'll enjoy these meals, plus save money on your food bill.

Well, back to work. I just wanted to give an update to those that had been asking. It's almost done... YIPPEE!
